Classic Live Bowie

I can't believe nobody has reviewed this yet. It's an incredible snapshot of Bowie at his best, featuring the inimitable Mick Ronson. Maybe this album doesn't need to be reviewed. It's been bootlegged for years, but here it is in, I would say, very good sound, especially for the time period. Mick Ronson, God rest his soul, was one of the finest guitar players to ever exist. He'll send shivers down your spine.

My Fanaticism With Ziggy Finally Explained And Defended

First off, I'm pretty much obsessed with Ziggy Stardust and the whole thing. But what really moves me is the live shows. This explains why. Staples galore and the only Setlist complain I have is not enough Aladdin Sane numbers (Only 1 here). However, "John, I'm Only Dancing" is present, which the other Ziggy live album lacks. "Hang On To Yourself" starts off this set and is FANTASTIC! It's a highlight for sure (Huge improvement over the original) and so is the next song, "Ziggy Stardust". I prefer the tempo of the Hammersmith Odeon set, but here the overall performance is better. Also present is the definitive version of "Changes" and a mostly acoustic "Space Oddity". Later on is the sweet "Width Of A Circle", where Ronson presents his mad guitar skills! But the real deal is the pairing of "Moonage Daydream" and "John, I'm Only Dancing". Indescribable both tracks are. Next is an astonishing cover of "Waiting For The Man" by The Velvet Underground. The last staple here is "Suffragette City", before the encore of "Rock N Roll Suicide". Yes, this a fabulous version. No, it's not better than the phenomenal Hammersmith Odeon version. However, the length and energy proves Ziggy isn't close to dead and it seemed he may never die. In our minds, he never will. This is the only proof necessary. It may just be the best live album, if only by a solo artist. Regret is only found by not looking into this album.

Best Ziggy Live Ever

Sonically speaking, this is a little ragged sounding, but the performance is enough to satisfy anyone who appreciates an outstanding rock and roll band at its peak, regardless of not having a perfect mix or whatever. 'Waiting onthe Man' is worth the price of admission alone in my book. It's superior to the official live Ziggy releasae form the 80's probably because of the better song selection and the higher energy level of the band. And you can talk about the great Mick Ronson and of course Bowie, but everyone in the band is hitting the mark at this gig. I am jealous of anyone in the crowd on this tour, from the before time known as the early 70's.
(not sure why iTunes wiped out all previous reviews of this CD, but I like this enough to put mine back up.)

Biography

Born: January 8, 1947 in Brixton, London, England

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '60s, '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

The cliché about David Bowie says he's a musical chameleon, adapting himself according to fashion and trends. While such a criticism is too glib, there's no denying that Bowie demonstrated remarkable skill for perceiving musical trends at his peak in the '70s. After spending several years in the late '60s as a mod and as an all-around music-hall entertainer, Bowie reinvented himself as a hippie singer/songwriter. Prior to his breakthrough in 1972, he recorded a proto-metal record and a pop/rock album,...
