iTunes Review

After making a splash with their promising EP, All of the Fire, the duo of Molly Shea and Jason Klauber spent the next two years working on their full-length debut, Lives and Treasure, with three different producers. The time was well spent. These polished and well-crafted songs pull equally from folk rock and electronic pop in both structure and texture. The two multi-instrumentalists trade off lead vocals, with Klauber singing the folkier, more organic numbers and Shea the more synth-driven and airy pop tunes. It’s a division of duties that suits their individual voices while also lending a good duality to the album. That said they shine brightest when they sing together, as on “Molly’s Vertigo,” “Asian Pear,” and the title track, which also happen to be some of the strongest tracks here. The pacing of the songs also keeps things interesting as brief acoustic tracks “The Window” and “Tortoise Shell Shades” are interspersed into the lineup between the glossiest and most heavily produced cuts. Gentle and understated, Lives and Treasure is a melodically rich recording that leaves you wanting more.

A Great Debut

There are plenty of treasures here -- a varied but consistently engaging set of songs. Acrylics are not monotone and are not afraid of being eclectic. Few other bands could pull off both "Sparrow Song" and "It's Cool Here." Beneath some of the surface dreaminess are some subtle darker tones.

Great Follow-up!

A friend had "Lil Ivy" and "All of the Fire" on her ipod and introduced me to this duo. I was looking forward to a follow-up album. Great vocals, reminiscent of Fleetwood Mac but they put their own stamp on their music. Love "Nightwatch". The Acrylics are a great addition to my music library!

Interesting and engaging all the way through

I especially liked the title track.

Though their band, Standing Nudes, broke up in 2007, musicians and friends Jason Klauber and Molly Shea knew they wanted to continue making music together. The two — who'd known each other since their time at Oberlin College, where they met after a mutual friend played some of Shea's songs to Klauber and formed the first configuration of Standing Nudes — decided to take things in a different direction than what they'd previously done. Drawing inspiration from Fleetwood Mac, Gram Parsons,...
