iTunes Review
A throwback-minded producer from Dallas, Gensu Dean is all about the golden era. One of the few beatmakers who still rocks the classic SP-1200, he deals exclusively in funk-heavy, sample-laden joints thick with dusty drum breaks that sound straight out of 1992. He has worked with Lord Jamar and Ol' Dirty Bastard, among others, and he now presents us with his first official album. It's 17 tracks deep and features collaborations with OGs like Large Professor ("Forever"), Brand Nubian ("In My Head"), Prince Po ("Heavy"), and DMC ("Co-Sign from the King"), as well as younger cats like The Planets and Roc Marciano. These cuts are extremely fresh, especially if you're old enough to remember when "Rapper's Delight" first came out. Don't miss "Forever," "Yen," "City Limits" featuring Count Bass D, and "Alice in Wonderland" with David Banner.

SP1200 Jedi
When Dean brought this album to the label it was one of those lotus flowers that just keeps opening revealing layer after layer of depth. I can't front, the first thing I noticed was the track listing: David Banner, Roc Marciano, Brand Nubian, Large Professor?! Who gets legends like that on their debut record?! After digging a little deeper I realized that Dean (Dallas based SP1200 producer) had done a number of songs I already knew including work on Crooked Lettaz (David Banner's first group) debut album, plus tracks with Lord Jamar of Brand Nubian on his 5% album (Study Ya Lessons) and more. Lo-Fi Fingahz was like finding a classic album with a brand new sound. I started with "Forever", "Yen", and "Runnin' Me Down" but like that Lotus I keep finding new tracks I dig after I let 'em play more and more. Right now I'm bumpin "In My Head". Shout to everyone on the project for makin' it happen and supporting Dean's movement! Big up to 7even:Thirty, Melatone, Blame One, Large Pro (look out for the video!), Banner, Calvan Fowler, Corey Sheridan, Joe Dent, J Kim, and of course Gensu Dean aka Deanage! You killed this one out the gate, glad to have it on the label!
JACK CITY STANDUP!
Dean has putting out classics forever. I am a long time fan and, pleased to say, FRIEND of his. The first Dean track I heard was on the radio in Jackson, MS. It was a single from the Crooked Lettaz album (David Banner & Kamikaze) and I just caught the end of the track as it was getting ready to fade out. I loved what I heard so much that I hurried up and four a black cassette (remember those?) and recorded the end loop of the track right before the fade. I looped that instrumental piece of the song on another tape on dub mode just so I could have a Dean instrumental…. Today I am a producer. Go get 'em, Dean!
Congrats !
