An excellent album

First and foremost, this is a very excellent album. It is worth listening to and it is worth paying for. Do you know, that when this album came out, Guitar magazine had tons and tons of people writing in to say how the music had zero talent, how they were sell-outs and all other crazy stuff. That very same year, Wes Borland (Limp Bizkit) was voted as Guitar Player of the year. Now...you have to understand that most negative comments come from people like this. You know....they say Good Charlotte is true punk and Metallica has lost all it's talent. The irony... To understand Metal you have to understand something. Rock came from country, blues and jazz. Metal came from rock. Now think of this as a IQ test. Ya know, if all rock comes from country, blues and jazz and all Metal comes from rock...then what is Metallica? They are musicians. Did you get it right!? Alright! They are Metallica. They are true Metallica regardless of what they do. If I start walking differently....I hate to tell ya - I am still Chad. This album was a necessary part of their career I think. It was a chance to explore their creative abilities in a new light. For instance, I am an artist. I don't always draw fire hydrents. Sometimes I want to draw tables. You know? Same thing. Load is a result of evolution in four very distinct and seperate personalities that come together to create. Who are you and I to say that their path is wrong? It is their creativity after all. And yes, Mama Said is a very good song. And so is Phantom Lord on Kill 'Em All. Whether Metallica plays Heavy Metal or creates the next Polka movement is redundant. They will still be doing what they have always done...and that is creating something from within. Something that can't be explained. So buy this album and ignore all the people who only listen to one very specific type of music and refuse to allow their favorite bands to grow and spread musically. They are dictators in the world of music. Be about musical and creative freedom and realize this is a damn good album. It will be worth your time.

Good. Not their best, but good.

Is this Metallica's least "metal" work to date? Yes. Is it full of bluesy riffs and solos, in contrast to the powerful "attack" style of their earlier thrash work? Yes. Did the band admit in the documentary Some Kind of Monster that some of the tracks on Load and Reload are B or C grade material glossed up and released? Yes. Is there slide guitar on the track "Mama Said"? Yes. Is it bad or uninspired? No. Load is at its best some of the best work Metallica has put out, and at its worst simply terrible. I've divided the album up into "A", "B", and "Bad" grade material: The Good, the OK, and the Ugly. -A pluses- The House Jack Built Until It Sleeps King Nothing Hero of the Day Bleeding Me Mama Said The Outlaw Torn -B material- 2 X 4 Poor Twisted Me Wasting My Hate Thorn Within Ronnie -Bleh- Ain't My B*tch (I'm shocked that they'd open an album with such an aweful song) Cure In summary, it's certainly not their best work, and not better than Reload or The Black Album, but 14 songs for $10, 12 of which are worth your money? I'd say go for it if you've already bought everything else (except Saint Anger!).

An absolute mess

This album is terrible in so many ways, here are a few: 1. Lets start with the cover, seamen and blood (not metal, nor art, just bad taste) 2. "Load" considering the artwork this is an immature and stupid title. Load, I get it ha ha ha 3. Speaking of maturity, check out the back cover of the album, you have the band with freshly cut hair dressed in suits & drinking martinis (lame) 4. Bob Rock has proven he can take a brilliant band and absoutly destroy them. He used to work with Motley Crue and Bon Jovi complete polar opposites to thrash metal bands 5. "Mama Said" country music (not metal) 6. The lead single off this album was the terribly boring "Until it Sleeps". 7. The only good thing about this album is "Bleeding Me" & "Wasting My Hate" thank God for iTunes (I would hate for people to actually have to buy this whole album) I understand that bands change and want to experiment, but "Load" shows what happens when the money starts pouring in; you become boring, bloated and self absorbed. I'm will always stand behind Metallica as an excellent live band, I never miss them when they're in town. Their live shows are amazing. Their studio work has suffered for well over a decade. I hope Rick Rubin can save them before their legacy is overshadowed by garbage like this and embarassing hissy fits like "Some Kind of Monster".

Biography

Formed: 1981 in Los Angeles, CA

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

Metallica was easily the best, most influential heavy metal band of the '80s. Responsible for bringing the genre back to Earth, the bandmates looked and talked like they were from the street, shunning the usual rockstar games of metal musicians during the early '80s. Metallica also expanded the limits of thrash, using speed and volume not for their own sake, but to enhance their intricately structured compositions. The release of 1983's Kill 'Em All marked the beginning of the legitimization of heavy...
