Cutting

Long Gone Before Daylight is a majestic, ethereal album, featuring sparse and sometimes dark vocals. This album was released about in the United States over a year after it's world release. Just now (October 2005), a new album has been released called Super Extra Gravity. It is also an excellent album and is much more rough and experimental. There is a wonderful follow up on it called And Then You Kissed Me Part 2, which is much more violent that the original. The Cardigans are on the top of their game with both this and their newest album.

One of my favorites!

I was turned onto the Cardigans by Gran Turismo but this album quite simply took me by surprise. The first time I heard it, I felt it was sorely lacking a high quality single (i.e. "Lovefool", "Erase/Rewind", "My Favorite Game"; but every time I listened to it thereafter, I liked it a little bit more. It is now, hands down, my favorite Cardigans album and quite possibly one of my favorite albums ever. The album itself is dark and moody and fits a rainy day well. The lyrics are top notch (and frankly, at one point in particular, strikingly violent) and Nina's voice floats like a ghost over the layers of atmospheric instrumentation below. I would not say that the album is downbeat, however, instead I would call it sentimental and sensitive - the songs reflect lessons of life: loss, acceptance, nostalgia, luck, dreams. This album is truly monumental and I wish it had received wider recognition. Every song is beautiful in its own way.

Absolute Must Buy

One of the best albums of the past few years. Do yourself a favor and buy the album ... there's no "clunkers" here, and the album flow beautifully from track to track. A few stand-outs; A Good Horse - for your guitar driven pleasure, Communication - a well craft song both lyrically and musically, Please Sister - sonic goodness, and 03:45: No Sleep & You're The Storm for lyrical crafting. Enjoy!

Biography

Formed: 1992 in Jönköping, Sweden

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '90s, '00s

One of the most pleasing pop groups of the '90s, the Cardigans specialized in sugary confections that would grow annoying very quickly if they weren't backed by solid musicianship and clever arrangements. The band's 1995 breakout album, Life, reflected the Cardigans at their most saccharine — the sunny disposition of vocalist Nina Persson being the major argument in favor — and critics inserted...
