iTunes Review

Connie Smith’s 1960s country hit “Once a Day” began an unlikely career for the former Midwestern housewife. However, Smith had a voice with everything a country singer required and her heart-wrenching sincerity made believers of listeners throughout the 1960s and 1970s. She’s slowed down since, but her voice retains its quality. 2011’s Long Line of Heartaches, her first album of new material since a self-titled solo album in 1998, is produced by her husband, country star Marty Stuart, and features classic country tunes penned by them, along with songs written by Patty Loveless, Harlan Howard and Emory Gordy, Jr. While her voice at 70 obviously has lost a little elasticity, it still possesses great heart and it’s a convincing instrument on ballads such as “I’m Not Blue” and “Blue Heartaches.” The spiritual “Take My Hand,” sung with her three daughters, is terrific. Smith and Stuart insist on a classic- country sound and her band, the Sundowners, brings out the best in Johnny Paycheck’s “My Part of Forever” and Johnny Russell’s “Ain’t You Even Gonna Cry.”

Country Music At It's Best

I have seen Connie perform live many times. I always hear the same thing from people around me who are hearing her for the first time, "boy, that woman can sing"! And sing she can. If you want to hear what country music sounds like at it's best - buy this record. Connie is right up there with the likes of Loretta and Dolly.

Connie Fan!!

She's Back!!!!! Love the traditional sound of it

Nobody Does It Better!

Traditional country at its best. Sing it girl! Buy this! Great songs and vocals by a real country artist who, on this collection, shows the new crop of artists how it's REALLY done! Superb job Connie!

In less than a year, Connie Smith moved from being a small-town Ohio housewife to country stardom with a number one single to her credit. Perhaps overly compared to and identified with Patsy Cline, Smith is still considered by many to be one of the best and most underrated vocalists in country history. Her lonely desperation came straight from the heart, also:...
