iTunes Review

Bratty, snide, and brash but rarely sophomoric, Green Day's major label debut is an explosion of punk-pop pleasure. Three chords haven't sounded this good since the Ramones. Green Day's world is one of suburban revolution, where dad is covered in tats and mom burns the toast with a blowtorch. They've found the promise of the American Dream a joke, but don't know who's to blame. Songs like "Chump," "Long View," and "Emenius Sleeping" point the finger randomly, including back at themselves. Billie Joe Armstrong's adenoidal singing is ideally suited to these songs. With his faux British accent, he comes off as justifiably petulant. Dookie helped revived punk music, wrapping it in great pop songs like "Basket Case" and "When I Come Around," somehow making furious dissatisfaction fun again.

...and im not using that term lightly. there are not many perfect cd's out there but this sure is one! this IS Green Day and while, yes, the newer Cd's are very good (dont get me wrong) this is them at their best! classic album. Its should be $7.99 because it should be in everybody's CD collection. Everyone deserves this CD.

hey this review is feed back to the jack**s who gave this album one star!!!!!!!!! if your username is greendayroxloud, then how come youre writing hurtful reviews to one of their best albums?!?!?!?! i'm probably one of the most obsessive compulsive green day fans there is, and so are many of my friends. and i dont cut myself or wear black all the time. in fact, i play soccer, i cheerlead, and my favorite color is pink, and i'm not emo!!!!!!!! so how's that for unexpected interest???????? quit trying to convert people to "clean, healthy" music because nobody cares. us here all love green day not because they have clean appropriate lyrics (because they dont), but we love them because, being a teenager myself, i can relate to them on this album. plus they have an amazing sound and genius lyrics. so i dare you to go out there and find an "inspirational" band that is even a third as good as them. you will not find it.
green day is not even emo. emo is not a style of any kind, it just means fricking emotional, and this album is not even that deeply emotional. the term is punk. get it right.

Out of all the post-Nirvana alternative bands to break into the pop mainstream, Green Day were second only to Pearl Jam in terms of influence. At their core, Green Day were simply punk revivalists who recharged the energy of speedy, catchy three-chord punk-pop songs. Though their music wasn't particularly...
