iTunes Review

The career-spanning double-disc collection Look What I Did! might at first seem excessive but there is more to Joe Walsh’s career than the average listener tends to notice. While it is true that the James Gang perfected the art of exhaust-fume rock with immortal songs like “Funk #49,” “Walk Away” and “The Bomber,” and Walsh helped to define '70s rock with his early solo albums (often recorded with members of his band Barnstorm), he also crafted sensitive, layered productions like “Help Me Thru the Night." The second disc does a good job of highlighting the lesser-known side of Walsh’s career. While his music had long had much in common with the studio confections of Todd Rundgren, songs like “I.L.B.T.’s,” “Space Age Whiz Kids” and “Shut Up” brought him even closer to the territory of Devo and David Bowie. Though the hard-rock devotees might be scared away, it’s all part of what makes Walsh great. “Theme From the Island Weirdos” even sounds like a bit like Brian Eno. At his heart, though, Walsh is a goofy, good-hearted rocker, as evidenced by the live rendition of the autobiographical “Ordinary Average Guy” that closes the collection.

Customer Reviews

Man This Is a Bummer of a Album!

Listen, I TOTALLY AGREE with the observations of all the previous people who reviewed this album. They're right on the money on their take on things. MUCH is missing from this collection from the aforementioned "Life Is a Illusion" to "Life's Been Good" etc. One thing that I liked about this collection in it's CD form is this is one of the rare Joe Walsh greatest hits collections believe it or not, to have "I Can Play That Rock and Roll" included from the "You Bought It, You Name It" albu on CD ANYWHERE! Now ofcourse this song too got cut along with a whole lot of stuff when they put it up here on iTunes. To think I was looking forward to at least ONE collection having it. As it is, this sure isn't worth anyone's time or money to buy. Get on the ball iTunes! Geez what a letdown.

Look What I Did! - The Joe Walsh Anthology

In response to other reviews about songs that should be in this compilation - this is an iTunes issue - the tracks were included on the original anthology. iTunes is missing tracks 22-33, which includes ILBT's and Life's Been Good...
