Album Review

On Look What You Made Me, the cocksure Yung Berg repeatedly mentions Jay-Z, Biggie, and Pac, but he certainly won't be mistaken for any of them. He apes Jay-Z's delivery quite a bit but his swagger and style is more Nelly and when it comes to lyrics, he's serviceable, not stunning. Put it this way, Look What You Made Me is his first full-length — following his Almost Famous EP by just over a year — and he's already used the word "Sexy" in the titles of two of his singles, but they were huge, hook-filled singles, both included here, surrounded by more of the same. "The Business," "Manager," "Do That There," and almost everything else that isn't marked "Interlude" would work just fine on urban radio. Add "Sexy Lady" and "Sexy Can I," plus a platinum dreams guest list that includes Ray J, Twista, Lloyd, and Eve, along with producers Rob Holladay and Mr. ColliPark, and the album is as sweet as candy, even when it's trying not to be sugary. From the confrontational album title to the cuss words, Berg is working to shake the pop tag and turn it hardcore with a baller stance that isn't so much embarrassing as it is uninteresting. The "I'm in touch with the streets"-type boasts just get in the way of the pop-rap excellence which has already earned this young artist his own imprint from Sony. If Berg stops thinking of himself as the next Jay-Z he might see what Sony sees and have a much better shot a becoming the next P. Diddy. After all, "Where Do We Go" takes an Alan Parsons sample and canes it to death, a perfectly Puffy moment if there ever was one.

he's good at spelling young

this guy is so original. i such admire what an innovator he is for the rap music/crime industry.

{BLACKLISTED} I would love to support him but...

I can't support an artist that is racist towards his own people. For those that don't know what I mean by that, based off of his statements on Lip Service Satellite Radio Show he doesn’t like “dark butts”: "I’m kinda racist… I don’t really like dark butts too much… It’s rare that I do dark butts. Like really rare… It’s like, no darker than me. No darker than me. I love the pool test…. If you can be like ‘Yo, baby. I met you in the club. Let’s go back to my house. Jump in the pool exactly like you are.’–And you don’t come looking better wet than you were before you got in the pool then that’s not a good look. Any girls that use brown gel to lay down her baby hair is not poppin" (from NicoleBitchie.com) He won't be getting any of my money, I will be downloading his CD, sorry.

Like Wale said on "Nike Boots" i seen the iTunes hatin, i think its more racist than the ratings!

I’ve personally listened to the album to its entirety myself and it’s a great album. You will find a lot of tracks you’ve already heard on it though. The production is on point and though he isn’t the second coming of JAY-Z, he isn’t another Souljah Boy either. I just think that some of yawls come to iTunes with your 100-song library to hate on EVERY release, when in fact you don’t even have enough in your catalogue to judge anything. Its sad because this album bumps and if there are any of you out there that are looking to put your two 12" or 15" kickers to some good use... Pick this up ASAP! I love all kinds of rap/hip-hop... every artist cant be a JAY-Z, Kanye, Drake, Little Brother, MF DOOM, Jadakiss, Common, etc... If you like Yung Berg or the kind of music he makes you wont be disappointed but if you want to pass just because a 12 year old white kid that knows absolutely NOTHING about rap/hip-hop said its garbage because 5 others before him said it was... simply don’t buy and go back to worshipping Lil Wayne. After all… he is the “best rapper alive” HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA what a joke…
