iTunes Review

Surviving physical maladies and personal rivalries, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young reunited once more to release 1999’s Looking Forward. The title seems appropriate — a reoccurring theme here is the group’s attempt to find renewed relevance at the dawn of the 21st century. If they don’t quite recapture the magic of 1970’s Deja Vu (their first album together), CSN&Y do achieve their highest level of inter-personal chemistry in a long time. The quartet returns to the political commentary of their Woodstock-era heyday with Stephen Stills’ seething “Seen Enough” and David Crosby’s anthem-like “Stand and Be Counted.” Hope for the days ahead is offered in the Neil Young-composed title track and Crosby’s “Dream for Him.” CSN&Y’s signature vocal harmonies (especially on Graham Nash’s bittersweet “Heartland”) and surging Latin/Caribbean arrangements (Stills’ festive “Faith in Me”) are much in evidence. The best songs overall are contributed by Young, who ruminates on the passage of time in “Slowpoke” and offers a quirky tribute to a lady-love in “Queen of Them All.”

Young is the only one left who can write a good song

I bought this when it came out and as far as I can see the only one who came up with some worthwhile tunes is Young (unsurprisingly). They are Looking Forward, Out of Control, Slowpoke. He also wrote Queen of Them All but that's a bit of a mess. Download the first three of his and skip the rest.

Big fan!

Saw them live supporting this record. WOW! I'm not as excited about this album as previous releases, however there are a few strong cuts to be found here. My personal favs are No tears Left (Hendrix reborn) and Stand And Deliver (positive message). I'm not as wild about some of Youngs' material as I have been in the past (blaphamy I know). I still like it in spite of some songs I would have done differently (this coming from a critic who has limited musical talent). You will enjoy it!

This rocks!

This is my favorite CSNY album. The best songs here are Queen of them All, Out of Control, Slowpoke, Sanibel, Faith in Me, and Stand and be counted.
I also recommend: Live it Up and Deja Vu
