iTunes Review

Young film scorer Michael Giacchino built his reputation sending up a few decades worth of spy score cliches via his rich, eclectic cues for TV's Alias, shedding his TV/video game journeyman's mantle with the full-bodied, swinging jazz score for Pixar's The Incredibles. His work for producer/creator J.J. Abrams' (who also penned the series' brief theme included here), Lost, allows Giacchino to better showcase the range of his mood-setting musical talents, echoing the show's more cinematic, genre-blending conceits. To that end the composer relies on musical cues that range from the moody, percussive drone of "The World's Worst Beach Party" to the tense, McAction film stem-winding of "Monsters Are Such Interesting People." As always, Giacchino's playful cue titles suggest just how much fun he's having tweaking even the hoariest of film music conventions.

Words can't begin to describe...

This music.....makes the show even more amazing. The themes fit so well and is carried through so neatly. It makes me feel something that i've never felt before. I want to be a better person. I dont care if this sounds dramatic, but everyone who watches this show, knows how they can relate to a character on it, and can feel the things they feel. This music brings it out in such a way that words can't begin to describe. Simply beautiful.

Individual Songs?

This is an exceptional soundtrack, but why can't i purchase these songs individually? There are some tracks I absolutely love, and others that are still great, but I don't need to have. My one complaint probably won't make a difference, but I was hoping iTunes would maybe change this.

Heartbreakingly evocative

One of the extraordinary strengths of "Lost" is the show's ability to mesh elaborate mysteries and ongoing plot with consistently strong character exploration. This album has all the signature creep-out moments from season one, but the standout tracks recall the finest character moments, from Boone's fall to the wrenching goodbyes when Michael, Jin, Sawyer and Walt begin their raft expedition. Track 26, "Parting Words," is rich with strings and recalls such other soundtrack gems as Thomas Newman's "Road to Perdition" and Carter Burwell's "Miller's Crossing."
