AMAZING ALBUM, start to finish!

First off, I'll admit that before I ever listened to this album, my expectations were high. It seems like years ago, many Christian artists were given a pass on the quality of their music (and it's execution) due to the subject matter. This, in turn, resulted in some beautiful lyrics that were flat out difficult to listen to. Whether the message is right on or not, nobody wants to listen to bad music.

Many of the artists I listen to do not make Christian music. Many of them probably aren't even Christians at all (unfortunately). The Christian artists I do listen do have one thing in common: they are amazing musicians, and they would likely be huge successes no matter which genre of music they found themselves in.

Nick falls into this category. This guy would be star no matter what type of music he was playing (though I can't imagine him rapping). He is one of these guys who are so tallented musically that is makes you a little annoyed. Annoyed that you don't have those same special, God-given abilities. That's Nick for you. On top of that, he's tall, good looking, well-spoken, and charismatic. This guy was made to perform, and if you ever have the chance to see him play live, don't let it slip by.

Though I don't know Nick's musical influences, I often found myself thinking "Switchfoot" while listening to Love Has Overcome. I'm a huge Switchfoot fan, though 2006's Oh Gravity didn't quite live up to 2004's The Beautiful Letdown or 2005's Nothing Is Sound. Seems like Nick picked up where they left off in 2005. Again, I have no idea if Nick has even heard Switchfoot before, let alone considered them to be an influence, but I could hear the similarites all over the album. A very good thing. I also hear a little Moses Mayfield in there, a now defunct band from Birmingham, AL. No doubt he has a wide range of musical interests and influences. My wife was reminded of Sting at one point listening to the album.

The album is full of beautiful, poetic lyrics throughout, with melodies catchy enough to get stuck in your head on the very first listen. It is clear that Nick poured sincere emotion and personal reflections into these songs. Ultimately isn't that why we listen to music? To be moved in one way or another? Stanton's sincerity is evident on every track.

I have a feeling this one is going to be in the playlist for quite some time.

College floormates

I went to college with Nick. He is one awesome dude and that shows through this cd. The songs capture his passion for sharing his story and his ability to change lives. God changed Nicks life in a special way, he has been given the tools to spread the word of the love our Jesus has for us now and for always. God speed Nick!
