Beyond Wonderwall

Yes, it's important to appreciate the hit "Wonderwall," played on countless indie-rock stations across the country, and maybe even on a few more mainstream radio stations. And yes, I would buy this album just for that song; for the instant gratification that it brings. However, the sheer elegance and unbelievable intelligence behind the other songs makes this album a sure bet. "The Shadowlands," once listened to, cannot be forgotten, as you will play it again and again. No, none of the 'other songs' are fillers.

To All Those Who Feel He "Ruined" Wonderwall

I find it amusing how many people have decided that Ryan Adams ruined Oasis's song Wonderwall when he covered it. I'd like to say a few things to that statement: 1. A quote from Noel Gallagher: "I never got my head round this song until I went to see heard [sic] Ryan Adams play and he did an amazing cover of it." For those who don't know Noel Gallagher is the writer of the song and member of Oasis 2. In August 2002, Noel changed the arrangement of his live performances of the song to a style admittedly heavily-influenced by Ryan Adams' cover version of the song. This arrangement has continued to his most recent live performances of the song. 3. Ryan Adams vocals in the song earned him a Grammy nomination for "Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance" I'm pretty sure if someone, and I quote countless people, "ruined" a song the Grammy nominators would not award them. And I am pretty sure that they have a better knowledge of musical achievement. In conclusion, just because someone covered a song you love and made it sound different than the original doesn't mean he ruined it. It should really show the talent of both the writer, Noel Gallagher, and the performer, Ryan Adams. Ryan Adams by covering the song immortalized it in music history so I'm not really sure why everyone is complaining about it. Much respect to both Noel Gallagher and Ryan Adams. P.S. I might add that Oasis and Ryan Adams played in concert together yesterday August 27, 2008

oh wow...

A cover is not supposed to be an exact replica of the song - thanks goodness there's people like Adams who takes a great song and makes it his own, his Wonderwall version is beautiful - if you don't like it, don't knock it, just go listen to Oasis... It's a freaking shame there's anything less than 4 or 5 stars given for this album... Top tracks: Political Scientist, Wonderwall, The Shadowlands, and Avalanche.

Biography

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Mixing the heartfelt angst of a singer/songwriter with the cocky brashness of a garage rocker, Ryan Adams is at once one of the few artists to emerge from the alt-country scene to achieve mainstream commercial success and the one who most strongly refused to be defined by the genre, leaping from one spot to another stylistically while following his increasingly prolific muse. Adams was born in Jacksonville, North Carolina in 1974. While country music was a major part of his family's musical diet...
