Album Review

A lot of people have the propensity to give H.I.M. unnecessary doses of grief simply because of the band's friendship and professional allegiance to pro skater Bam Margera. What's unfortunate about this is that H.I.M. actually produces dramatic metal of high sonic quality, and once again Love Metal further reinforces that notion. Going one better than Razorblade Romance, Ville Valo and company waste no time bringing out the big guns with "Buried Alive By Love," which easily measures up to the group's most well-known moments. The songwriting is as strong as it has been in quite some time and a newly found sense of urgency keeps the record going at a well-tempered pace. For die-hard fans, this is the album H.I.M. has been struggling to make and realize for quite a while, and even the aforementioned detractors of the group would be well served by giving this record a spin. [The 2005 Universal edition returned to the CD's original, ten-track format.]

HIM is amazing

To be honest, it took me a listen or two to appreciate the music, but it was AMAZING the third time around. It continues to get better and better with each subsequent listen. I recommend HIM to all my friends, and there aren't many bands I can say that about. Excellent song writing (but very basic, nothing technical), great lyrics (but once in a while almost cliche), and Ville has an AMAZING voice. There aren't many bands that are better. Oh yeah. NOT satanic. They shortened it to HIM to AVOID connections to Scandinavian black metal bands that were killing each other and burning churches around the time they came out. And Ville says the heartagram is nothing but a modern yin yang: Hate counterbalanced by love. Though I can see where people can get confused. Most people don't look into things before they talk on and on and on and on.... GREAT album! Highly recommended. Oh yeah. And saying "not really metal" is like saying Slayer isn't metal because they don't sound like Priest, or Otep doesn't count because they don't sound like Cradle. But it is true if you ONLY listen to "pure" metal, you might not dig this.

not satanic

first off, i love this cd, a lot of good stuff, like the path. also, HIM isnt satanic, its about love and death, and i aint gothic either, just like good music, but fans of Deep Shadows and Brilliant Highlights shouldd by this, its almost as good as that one (my personal fav. HIM cd)

H.I.M./CAN'T GET BETTER THEN THAT!!!!

I'm 34yrs. old and love this band. I got my 13 yr. old into this music and this is her favorite group now. If you really want to hear a fantastic album, then anything by this group will work . THERE IS NO BAD SONGS SUNG BY H.I.M. I hope to see more coming from them soon.

Finland's H.I.M. One year later, Greatest Love Songs, Vol. 666 solidified their cult status throughout the region. Razorblade Romance (2000) and Deep Shadows and Brilliant Highlights (2002) were followed by the Europe-only Love Metal in 2003. A series of compilations followed, including And Love Said...
