Customer Reviews

Very Mediocre

These songs are perfectly good solid songs. It's definately not the best I've heard, I've heard much better singing than this. The choir is very together. However, yes, now the negative side. However, their blend is poor. Not very well balanced. The point of singing is to make it sound like one voice, not thirty voices ATTEMPTING to sound like one voice. I also have to say that the sopranos completely drown our the rest of the sections from being heard. And that's natural. It just needs to be worked on. The biggest thing that I have to say is that their vowels are a catastrophe. The sound is very wide, which makes it sound childish. Which is not a good thing, seeing as how these are adults. Personally, I really wouldn't waste my money on any of these songs because you could spend your money on something so much better and something that's been worked on longer and more prepared for a performance or cd recording.

Five Hebrew Love Songs

These five songs are AMAZING. very artistic and refined.

Listen Closely, Listen Well

In response to a previous reviewer, to say that the purpose of singing is to "sound like one voice" demonstrates a kind of tunnel vision that is unfortunately quite common among people who love choral music. I truly love singing, but I also love music in general. The purpose of singing is not to blend voices together but rather to make music. Why would blend be the top priority when there is so much more to communicate? There is true beauty in the singing of the University of Miami Chorale. It has a vitality matched only by it's exquisite artistry. It is exact and purposeful, but sounds spontaneous and inspired. While the tone concept is brighter than most old-school midwestern choirs strive for, it is (I repeat) stunningly beautiful. Buy this album and be inspired; that is, unless you've chosen to stop listening before you start.
