Customer Reviews

My own private Memphis

I thought Lucero was "okay" for the longest time, then one day my ears realized I was wrong. They're not okay, they're essential to my being. They don't play the best, they don't sing the best, they don't write the best, but they put it all together with duct tape and sweat and give my soul what it needs. Pure raw emotion and primal release. Not to say that they're all noise and no substance, much to the contrary, they grab at the depths and enliven my mind. They strive against the big questions with a bottle of whiskey and a Marlboro Red. I love this band and this record. The best of the best: Raising Hell, Better Than This.

Great Album!!!

Great songs are rare and these is a great collection on songs made with a lot of heart. A hybrid sound that makes you want to laugh, cry, think, remember... whatever you feel like it is always good to have some LUCERO in your life.

One of the best alternative folk rock albums of all time!

There are very few albums out there that have the power to change the mindset of a listener... THIS IS ONE OF THEM!!! If you are not familiar with Lucero, there sound is that of folk rock with hints of country and blues. Their music is personified by whiskey bars, scorned lovers, fragile hearts, and the love and pain that life brings. Not only is the music good, its subject matter gives us something with which we can really connect. The band takes the universal emotions of love and pain and brings them to life in a way that most bands can only dream about. You don't just hear this album... You can feel it. Track after track, this album delivers the music in a way that inspires and connects with the listener. Even if you only remotely like this genre, you must buy this album... I promise you won't regret it.

Adding a Southern flavor to their love of the indie folk-pop of Ida, Memphis alt-country rockers Lucero have suffered the turbulence that comes with the indie scene, but their story of perseverance and survival is triumphant, so much so that director Aaron Goldman made a film about it. Formed by leader Ben Nichols in the late '90s, Lucero took their name from the Spanish word meaning "bright star." After releasing a single on the Landmark label, Lucero — rounded out by drummer Roy Berry, bassist...
