Album Review

Nick of Time not only was an artistic comeback for Bonnie Raitt; it brought her largest audience yet, so there was no reason to mess with success for its sequel, Luck of the Draw. And sequel is the appropriate word, since Luck of the Draw is nothing if it isn't Nick of Time, Pt. 2. True, there's a heavier reliance on original material this time around, but the sound and feel of the record is identical to its predecessor. There is one slight difference — several of the songs appear tailor-made for crossover success, whereas Nick of Time felt organic. Nevertheless, Luck of the Draw is an unqualified success, filled with strong songs — including the hits "Something to Talk About" and "I Can't Make You Love Me," plus the Delbert McClinton duet "Good Man, Good Woman" — appealing productions, and just enough dirt to make old-school fans feel at home.

Love this album!

If I was going to be stranded on a desert island, this would be the CD I would pick to go with me. Not only is there enough variety in the kinds of songs that Bonnie Raitt has included on this album to keep me from getting bored with it, but the songs included on it are also well written and (as far as the somber melodies go) touching.

If I were to describe her voice, it would be rough and beautiful, part rock singer and part blues artist. She sings with just the right amount of emotion, and I <3 the way she pulls it off without overdoing the force. Do yourself a favor and listen to the samples, especially I Can't Make You Love Me, Not the Only One, One Part Be My Lover, and All At Once, and ... darn it, they're all just really great!

Buy this album, and know that you'll never lose interest. I've been listening to her since I was 6, and after 12 years it still holds its place as #1 Greatest Album EVER. :)

AMAZING

Bonnie Raitt is amazing, even after all this time.

The artist that sticks with ya!!

This is one of my top favorite albums from the 90's. Her voice is gritty smoothness that keeps you listening. And, it brings back those days when life was simple in youthful bliss but your emotions raced like a bull. Love this album, it takes you there!!!

Long a critic's darling, singer/guitarist Bonnie Raitt did not begin to win the comparable commercial success due her until the release of the aptly titled 1989 blockbuster Nick of Time; her tenth album, it rocketed her into the mainstream consciousness nearly two decades after she first committed her unique blend of blues, rock, and R&B to vinyl. Born in Burbank, CA, on November 8, 1949, she was the daughter of Broadway star John Raitt, best known for his starring performances in such smashes...
