Album Review

Each release in the Rockabye Baby! series takes the best-known songs of a particular artist and places them in a lullaby processor that involves chimes, bells, and vibraphones — renditions that are slightly more involved than the music that comes out of the average baby mobile. Whether the original versions are heavy and aggressive or light and subdued, these lullaby versions are uniformly appropriate for their purpose. And, in some cases, they even happen to tease out an unlikely amount of melodicism not apparent in the originals. The Smashing Pumpkins volume features versions of "Tonight, Tonight," "Cherub Rock," "Today" (a natural pick), "Disarm," and "Farewell and Goodnight."

Awesome.

Some music doesn't translate into lullibies well. For instance I love Nirvana but the lulliby redition version doesn't sound so great. This is not the case with the pumpkins. Their music is so universal and hauntingly beautiful that even rock songs like Cherub Rock easily pass as soothing lullibies. This is a beautiful CD and every song translates amazingly.

Smashing Album.

This not only was relaxing, it made me sob a little bit also. I transcended back to the Mellon Collie, sadistic love tunes while listening to Tonight, Tonight and found myself crying! I may admit, this seems a bit more of a parent's album than an infant's, but rest assured, both enjoy it. I lay down, watching my baby while listening and think back to the good old days, the days that I miss and loved, and I think about now, and what I have and what I can share with him. I'm going to sum up that his favorites are "Galapagos" and "Try, Try, Try" and some days we listen to the real stuff, but for a children's album, this really is amazing. Puts them to sleep, and brings back soothing memories, or fond relaxation, for those who haven't experienced the nineties as a teenager.

My son loves it. Instant calming effect.

I have Beatles version and Pumpkins. By far pumpkins is his favorite. This music really does sound good in a lullabye format. Its a shame people wrote off Corgan as a weirdo. They did an amazing job translating these songs!
