Stunning and emotional
These songs will touch the inner-most part of your being. They are beautiful, powerful and filled with emotion. Sometimes literal, and often symbolic, they beg to be listed to carefully, from the creative introductions, all the way until the final detail has faded away. Listen again, and be hypnotized by the images these songs create.
What can I say...
That first guy took all the words out of my mouth. Verbatim.
Luma Optica
In the spring of 2011 I had the pleasure of interviewing James Major and Hondu Knight of the Orlando based band Savannah. We got talk about the start of the band, their debut EP “Vessels”, and their influences. A few days ago the band released their second EP “Luma Optica” and, as expected from the lengths the band has come in the few short months I’ve known them, it has caused quite a stir. The EP is very melody driven as is to be expected, but they have a few surprises in store as they mature from “Vessels” to “Luma Optica”. The opening track starts with just James playing piano and singing, which is a great insight to the melodic, ambient sound you are going to get with “Luma Optica”. The rest of the band makes their debut on this album about halfway through the first song and it is at that moment you get that full body rush you felt the first time you listened to “Vessels”. But do not be fooled. As you continue on the journey of “Luma Optica” you realize the band has matured greatly in both songwriting and producing. “Luma Optica” is a full bodied EP, with each song on the album playing its very important role, with a thicker sound than “Vessels”. The band still has room to grow. They leave themselves open to comparison a lot on this EP, with most songs sounding like one of their inspirational musicians rather each song encompassing a mixture of their influences into a sound they can call Savannah. This may not be the worst flaw to have this early in their careers. “Luma Optica” is an EP that will be grabbing the attention of fans and the music business alike. No sophomore slump for Savannah! These guys hit a solid 4 out of 5 starts with “Luma Optica”.
