Album Review
As much as Sounds From the Ground deserve to be considered on their own, you can't help but think of the first two Orb albums while Luminal is spinning. Dubby beats, spacy noises, and an appearance from steel-guitar man B.J. Cole all bring the best of the Orb's early years to mind, but stampeding horses sound effects and Dillinger singing about "Ten Tons of Dope" are a few of the touches that make this unit more fun and easygoing. They're lighter and brighter too, making Luminal less of a commitment than anything the Orb ever did. The melody of "As the Day Goes By" latches on right away and even with most tracks over six minutes, Luminal is noodling-free. Released in an age when the laptop and glitch reign supreme, Luminal keeps the space-music spirit of Tangerine Dream and the Orb going with a winning smirk and a Kruder & Dorfmeister quirk.

A Musical Soundscape
Sounds from the Ground's Luminal is definitely an album to look into if you appreciate music that surrounds you in subliminal storytelling. I first heard some of the tracks from this album from an Ambient show I still enjoy to this day, but these tracks speak out to you and whisper hidden tales if you listen close enough. "As Days Go By" is a track that brings on feelings of persistence without monotony. "Razz" showers you in sonic cleansing and "London Fields" brings out an earthy observers feel on a day in the life feel. If you like Electronic Music, This one is well worth the listen!
Mellow and Easy Listening
I'm a fan of Eastern Sun, Massive Attack, Underworld, Nick Warren and Dave Seaman. I listened to a few songs and then bought the whole album. I highly reccommend it, makes great music to enjoy a glass of wine with!
