Album Review

What's New illustrated that Linda Ronstadt was no longer interested in contemporary pop, and since it was a surprise success, there was no reason not to repeat the formula on Lush Life. Working again with Nelson Riddle, Ronstadt runs through several pop standards — "When I Fall in Love," "Sophisticated Lady," "Falling in Love Again," "It Never Entered My Mind" — which are given lush arrangements. Ronstadt sings the material professionally, and Lush Life is just as effective as What's New.

Lush Life is extraordinary

I picked this CD up years ago before I had an Ipod, and had never appreciated Linda Ronstadt before. The arrangements, and her voice achieve some really remarkable moments. Another thing when you listen to this, Billy Strahorn was 16 years old when he wrote "Lush Life." Listen closely to the lyrics, and ask yourself, how'd a 16 year old kid in Pittsburgh "Know all that?" The clarity of Ronstadts voice frequently give me goose bumps listening to this recording.

Big Band Golden Era

This is the best big band/ jazz album ever recorded by Linda Ronstadt. Brings back a lighter age and elegance. Thanks, Gina Valence

Lush Life: unclean lyrics?

I've had this album on vinyl for a long time and I can't recall any offencive lyrics, unless sexual innuendo counts, then I may have just purchaced a bunch of very fine instrumental arrangements. In any case this has long been a favorite of mine(more so than" What's New")except the the title tune. Somehow Miss rondstadt is just too perky, and, well clean to pull it off.
