Customer Reviews
A must have for every blues enthusiast!
This movie and soundtrack isn't supposed to be about the best blues musicians of all time. It gives some of the lesser known artists from Mississippi a chance to be heard and they respectfully deserve it. Most of these musicians had never recorded until the last decade. This is a shame because we never heard them in their prime. Yeah there are films like Deep Blues and You See Me Laughin which documented superior musicians, but all those guys are, unfortunately, passed on. This film and soundtrack give true blues enthusiasts a chance to hear musicians that deserve a chance to be heard and still actively play shows today. You can catch most of them at the Juke Joint festival in Clarksdale, MS every year. M for Mississippi pays tribute to some of the last active and authentic Mississippi bluesmen still breathing. (10 out of 11 musicians on this soundtrack are still living - Rest in peace "Junebug"). This is a great soundtrack to one of the best blues films of all time. If you haven't seen the film "M for Mississippi" your missing out!
Okay
I wasn't crazy about the film, but I did like L.C. Ulmer's "Rosalee." It's not that I don't love blues (I do!), but there are some other films out there that feature better performances and better musicians (who have since died). Check out You See Me Laughing, Deep Blues, and The Blues Accordin' to Lightnin' Hopkins (this last one is hard to find). Hope this helps.
