A longtime fixture on the Canadian hip-hop scene, Mad Child has been recording since the mid-‘90s, co-founded the group Swollen Members, and started his own successful label, Battle Axe. Despite (or because of?) his Northern location, he's had an impressive career complete with multiple Juno Awards (Canada's GRAMMYs), international tours, and high-profile licensing deals. Vocally he rocks a high-pitched flow, with often-comical rhyme schemes and zany/juvenile content. Sometimes it works, and sometimes he comes off sounding like a poor-man's Eminem, bragging about how insane he is and how many drugs he takes. On this self-titled, digital-only solo EP, he drops six tracks that could be easily be Swollen Members out-takes. Some of them are dope (the spooky, classical guitar-infected opener "Broken Mirror" and "Concerto F / Prevail"), and some of them are difficult to listen to ("D******d" and "My Life"). If you're a fan of his other material, this should be right up your alley, or at least a good diversion until the next Slim Shady comeback.
