iTunes Review

If you’re looking for the punk/metal hardcore Mountain Man, chances are the honeyed, three-part harmonies of Amelia Meath, Molly Sarle and Alexandra Sauser-Monnig will drive you right off this page. If, however, you are in search of shimmering, airborne vocal melodies that offer both sharp emotional edges and pastoral tranquility, this Vermont trio of young women will enchant you. Meeting at college, and somewhat startled by the exhilarating sounds they made together, the three singers began writing material — largely a cappella, dressed with minimal acoustic guitar — that resonates with early Americana roots music and devotional tones. Made the Harbor feels as organic and pure as the air of an early Appalachian morning, but it’s tempered with both playfulness (especially “Buffalo,” “Mouthwings,” “How’m I Doin’”), and an underlying rapturous, sometimes sultry, quality (“Soft Skin,” “Arabella”). The delightful trilling and harmonizing in “Animal Tracks” is a stellar representation of this charming and surprisingly sturdy debut.

Absolutely Lovely.

Okay so I am that total jerk that judges alot by covers. Books movies people and music. So every week I go through the new CDs on iTunes and look at all the album covers. The ones I like or think are original, I check out the music. This cover interestede and I LOVE the music. It's super relaxing to listen to and their voices are very nice. I like the song soft skin and animal tracks. Plus don't hate me For judging by covers usually it's how I find most the stuff I like. Works alot of times.

Beautiful Voices Making Beautiful Sounds

Wow. This album reminds us that Voice is an amazing musical instrument that when mastered and harmonized produces beautiful entrancing sounds that require no accompaniment. During every song I find myself expecting to hear one of their three lovely voices stray off pitch or falter on a note, I think - there's no way they can consistently sing such perfect harmonies - but they do! And it's wonderful! Listening to this album I feel as though I'm in a concert hall, (you can even hear a chair creak now and then ) the sound is full and pure and absolutely entrancing. I just want to sit still and quiet and focus on each beautiful melody. And I would say there's a bit of a range to the types of songs they sing, they don't all sound like early American folk - White Heron, Mouthwings, and Babylon being three such examples. A lovely lovely album.

terriffic record

These women create amazing harmonies. It is truly beautiful. The music is accessible, and chilled out enough that you can read or study with it on. Purchase this album.

Vermont-based indie folk outfit Mountain Man formed in the late 2000s around the talents of Molly Erin Sarle, Alexandra Sauser-Monnig, and Amelia Randall Meath. The three women met while attending Bennington College, a small liberal arts school in the southwest corner of the state. The trio members, who harmonize so effortlessly that comparisons to the Sirens of Greek mythology are inevitable, craft largely a cappella, modern folk songs that draw heavily from the melodies and imagery of traditional...
