The first edition of Madlib's ambitious, 12 CD project (released one per month for the whole year of 2010), Before the Verdict is loaded with new music and never-before-heard remixes, pairing the eccentric and prolific Beat Konducta with Detroit MC and fellow Stones Throw artist Guilty Simpson, offering listeners a taste of their forthcoming OJ Simpson collaboration. Madlib's production is both reliably bugged out and totally unpredictable, blending elements of free jazz and hardcore hip-hop, heavily influenced by high caliber weed and notoriously deep crates (currently estimated at a hefty 4 tons). MED stops by for "The Exclusive," while the late great J Dilla appears on "Young Guns," but for the most part its all about Madlib and Guilty, who further prove themselves a seriously potent combination.

Doggy bag

This album sounds like some one took all the leftover beats that Madlib didn't use and threw Guilty on it. Some of the beats have already been used. By the poor standard set by the rest of the genre of hiphop, this is a great album. By the bar raising, brilliance that is Madlib, this is garbage.

It's good, not great.

Madlib has definately put out better albums than this. Guilty is the man and the collabo with Madlib is that much sweeter. but I'd recommend waiting for their complete album. If you are a BIG fan of the Mind Fusion series, buy this, but if you're impartial....wait.

New Madlib material! Definitely a must buy for Stones Throw fans.
