Album Review

Jump Little Children's first full-length under the umbrella of Atlantic has the band moving away from their ragged Irish indie folk to concentrate on a louder, more up-front alternative rock/pop approach. Produced by Brad Jones (Matthew Sweet, Imperial Drag), there's an accent on swelling, instantly gracious choruses, but the band seems a bit too tentative in their new direction to infuse the songs with the self-belief necessary for the music to rise above American indie convention. A distortion-filled "Strawberry Fields Forever" ("Violent Dreams") and the XTC by way of Beck "Habit" are clever, and two of the strongest songs of their career. It's the apparent influence of touring with Seven Mary Three and Rusted Root or having "Cathedrals" played in IKEA that seems to have done the most damage.

For the musician

The incredible soul that is played from the musicians is clearly felt by the audience. The diverse instrumentation is refreshing to hear and energizing to feel. You can't help but to move with the music, whether melancholy or across the spectrum, they provide it. A real musician's band. Wow. Whatever mood I'm in, this band fits my feeling.

I LOVE THEM

OMG when I was at camp they played cathedral and close your eyes every night so when I hear those songs I think of them. They're awesome!

This is a worthy group

I can't stand local POS bands and kids that strangle guitars while screaming, so I was a bit nervous about going to a gig to see JLC. I was soooooooo surprised. These cats are amazing. Easily one of my favorite bands after listening to just one of their albums. Their best album is certianly "Between the Dim and the Dark." Every song on there is an instant hit. I hope they get a major label soon!!
