iTunes Review
Though its title may sound grandiose, Jason Reeves’ 2007 debut album is actually a work of small moments rendered with an unaffected, vulnerable touch. The Iowa-born Reeves is an acoustic singer/songwriter in the classic mode, often bringing both James Taylor and John Mayer to mind. What makes him stand out is his utter believability. He catches the right note of head-over-heels infatuation in “Reaching” and “You In a Song” while “Entwined” manages to extend his tender emotions to humanity at large. Reeves is even more convincing when dealing with loss, as in “New Hampshire,” “Photographs & Memories,” and “The End.” Breaking the wistful mood here is “Gasoline,” a venomous tune sung with a measure of real anger. Reeves’ slightly foggy, ache-inflected delivery is matched by his sparse guitar playing and the subdued production of his album’s tracks. Ultimately, his greatest skill may be his pitch-perfect feel for the nuances of romance and if that doesn’t make these songs always magnificent, it does make them ring true.
Customer Reviews
Simply heartfelt..
I've had his album for maybe almost a month now. I just have to say that the very first time I listened to him, he sucked me into his music. I actually wrote a review for this album, but that was before it was released through Warner Bros. But I'm fine with doing it again! Jason Reeves is an amazing singer-songwriter/musician. His voice has that yearning and raw sound to it. His lyrics are amazing, and they're also relatable. He also somehow turns simple (words, chords, melodies..) into wonderful and perfect. I HIGHLY recommend you in buying this album; if you do otherwise, then you will regret it! Here are some songs that stand out to me, but don't get me wrong.. I love them all: Old Fashioned Letters - this one is my favorite. truly touching and honest. New Hampshire - I don't really know why I like this song.. the last minute (of music and "you b-----") is awesome though! :) Gasoline - gotta love this. it shows his angrier side. Happy Accident - fun song that makes me wish it would happen to me someday! The more popular songs (Someone Somewhere, Photographs & Memories, Pretty Eyes......) are also really good. If I were to choose a second favorite, I wouldn't be able to.. Get a chance to see him live (and meet him), too. He's just as good live; trust me when I say he hits all the notes! Okay. It's time for you to buy his album!!
A Fire Meant To Inspire
So i have been a fan of Jason for about 2 years now and have shared many amazing moments to his stories of love with my girlfriend. Entwined is actually our song but when i tell people that they are like "jason who?". Many people might know him from Colbie Caillat but in my opinion people should know Colbie through Jason. Jason might be one of the best lyricist of our time and it really shows in this CD. The Magnificient Adventures of Heartache goes through every emotion imaginable in love. From wanting to meet someone to meeting them and falling in love and out of it. I would Recommend this CD to any and everyone, especially if you love acoustic or folk music. Actually i do! Now if you dont want to buy the whole CD right away and want to get a feel for his music I would download "Just Friends" "New Hampshire" "Just Friends" or "Photgraphs and Memories."
Magnificent Album
I purchased this album when it was first released and I must say I have enjoyed it immensely. "Old Fashioned Letters" is my favorite song. It goes straight to the heart and truly describes what it feels like to be separated from the one you love. Some other favorites- "Someone Somewhere": an encouraging song for those who are waiting for that special someone to come along. "Happy Accident": describes that magical moment when you finally meet them. "You In a Song": When you first fall in love, and you can't help but tell everyone. "Entwined": Describes when you and your special someone are holding each other and realize how thankful you are that you met. "Just Friends": The fight to not let go begins when someone says they want to be "Just friends." "Photographs & Memories": When it ends, and all you have are the memories of the good times you had, this really shows the heartache. "The End": It's the end of the relationship, and you don't know where to go, but, out of the blue, everything starts over again. You could really play this album on repeat and it describes every stage of relationships, then it starts all over again. No matter where someone is in the process, someone can really relate to it. That's what really makes this album, and Jason Reeves' songwriting, golden. I would highly recommend this album to anyone.
