Customer Reviews
A definitive version of an astounding symphony
Solti's interpretation is very powerful, and aside from a few minor slip ups in the Scherzo, Chicago is flawless, and sounds terrific.
wow
I beg to disagree -- this is one of the finest displays of orchestral trumpet playing in existence -- this recording is legendary among orchestral trumpet players -- Bud Herseth's playing may have a chip or 2 but oh my god overall this is amazing trumpet playing and the brass and ww's are incredible -- from the opening trumpet solo to the end wow -- if a trumpet player is picked to play the end of the world it will probably be Herseth -- this is a major tour de force of the best Mahler Orchestra to ever take a stage - IMO - Mahler 3 in this Solti series is also pretty unreal -- check out the solo in the Comodo s Section - another legendary Herseth performance - oh well Sorry I am a fan and a trumpet teacher -- these are the 2 recordings I play for students to hear what orchestral trumpet playing is all about -
Great recording
If I had hired "wow-o" as a music critic, I would want my money back.
