A great end to a great Mahler cycle!

Some truly moving moments in this LSO recording - I have listened to other's interpretations but this shines through for me. A bargain too!

Bad Quality

The quality of the sound is terrible.

Dreadful sound!

It is impossible to assess this performance (much less enjoy it) because the sound is dreadful. (I listened through a high-quality set of AKG headphones.) The listener's perspective is that of someone sitting in the lobby of the auditorium listening to the orchestra through an open exit door. The recording was released at exceptionally low volume; but even increasing the volume to a high level, the strings are anemic and the percussion booms and bangs like an overhead thunderstorm, drowning everything else out. Didn't anyone listen to this recording before it was released?!?!? I'm sure the orchestra and the conductor put in long hours of preparation and a lot of love into the performance, but the recording negates it all. I would like to hear this performance remastered by another producer/engineer. As the recording is now, purchasing it is a waste of money. Mahler's 9th is one of the great symphonies and one of my favorites. For a totally different (and exalting) picture of what a superb recording (and great orchestra and conductor can do for this symphony), I would suggest Claudio Abbado's DGG recording of 2002 with the Berlin Philharmonic. Revelatory!
