Reminds me.....

She reminds me of Nohelani Cypriano. (I am not sure I spelled her name correctly.) I very much enjoyed this music and look forward to further recordings.

A smooth maiden voyage as a solo artist!!

This album is exceptional! We hear a voice that is all familiar to us as we are used to hearing Mailani from her Keahiwai and Mighty J days. Yet, Mai strikes new ground blending who she's known for (Contemporary Hawaiian), who she really is and who she wants to be known as. Her voice is cool and provides easy listening. She may not have Amy's falsettos but Mailani captures the soothing allure of the islands. The lyrics of her songs unveil emotions that are honest and raw. I suggest that everyone look up the translations of the songs on her official album website. Secrets are unraveled with music that is unparalleled. For her first solo album, Mailani did pretty darn good. She stays familiar while venturing to new waters. If she keeps making music, Mailani definitely has a place in the genre. I may have debated spending 12 bucks for this album. But after hearing it in its entirety, I can say it's one of the best 12 bucks I've ever spent! Thank you for the music, Mailani!

Mailani - Sweet, Salty and So Divine!

People in Hawaii especially have come to love the flowing fiery blend of the Keahiwai ladies, who brought a new sound to old favorites and hit it big with their original compositions. MAILANI on her debut solo album showcases her talents and shines on her own. The wider world market will appreciate her English language songs, her guitar acoustics entwined with a voice sultry like Colbie Caillat, in Stay for the Day. She then transitions with the ukulele in Poni Aloha and Penei Iho, Penei A'e, Penei No and a very upbeat He Mele No Kahalu'u that you can imagine seeing someone perform on the Merrie Monarch stage next year. Ho'oheno Keia No Beauty, Ka Uluwehi o Ke Kai, Ua Like, Te Tiare and Pua Lililehua are all well done, and honor the original artists, yet bring a Mailani flavor to these favorites. Lei Aloha Lei Makamae with the piano is of Bros Caz quality. This is a versatile album, one you can listen to while at work or play, and will enjoy often for a long time.
