A better arrangement than Poledouris'

     

I don't know why, either for budget limitations or perhaps Basil. Poledouris was experimenting with synths, but his use of an electronic horn section for the score to Red Dawn dates what otherwise is an awesome bit of gung-ho Americana. When I finally bought the full score on itunes a few years back, I was a bit disappointed out how 80's it sounded, (I guess I never noticed while enjoying the theme in the movie) I immediately went around to the various soundtrack producers like Varese and Silva to see if anyone had done a new, more appropriate arrangement of the closing theme, as in, with a full orchestra. While such a thing does not exist and I really think the theme would be fantastic if arranged for a solo trumpet at the end ala Taps, Misters Hauser and Wiegand do a fine job of making the theme sound fuller and more like it "should be."
