Most Underrated/Under-publicized Record of 2004

The record works as an elaborate map. Unlike most maps this includes intentional misdirections and noted booby-traps. There is just so much going on; the elementary students in "... Peruvian Monster" and the rhythmic explosion which is "Zebra" will introduce you to chaos, chaos' mother and chaos' father. It's a real treat for your ears. Their 2006 record will not disappoint.

These guys are awesome

I had never heard of these guys before but just heard them open for Modest Mouse tonight in New Orleans... by far the greatest, most original and energetic band I have ever seen. The band members set up all their equipment which included spoons thrown into a metal bowl as just one instrument, along with an empty fire estinguisher for another original instrument. To top this off the paino player took water and made the sign of the cross on a girl in the crowds forehead... lik I said they are original. This is the first time I'm listening to this cd. regardless if you like them on cd they are amazingly awesome in concert. NO DOUBT the best

Love 'em

As everyone has said: if you see these guys live, you'll absolutely love and understand what makes them so great! Modest Mouse fans tend to be a biiiiiit picky about other bands, so I wasn't sure how the fans would react to Man Man opening. But seriously, I've never seen an opener get the crowd jumping and dancing around like these guys did. It was amazing. This cd pretty much just takes every instrument you could possibly think of, and then some that you wouldn't, and still some others that aren't really instruments, and somehow melds it all together into a wonderful collaberation of sound, haha. The rhythms are catchy and the lyrics are thought provoking and interesting. I've heard their sound described as a mixture of Tom Waits, The Unicorns, and a little bit of Modest Mouse? But I'm not sure how accurate that is. I think that really, they have their own sound that simply doesn't compare. Plus, I met them! They're really nice!! They definitely deserve to be listened to.

Based in Philadelphia but also spending time in New York, Man Man feature Honus Honus (vocals/synthesizer), Tiberius Lyn (drums), Clint Killingsworth (bass), and Steven Dufala (guitar/trumpet). Man Man made their album debut in 2004 with The Man in a Blue Turban with a Face, and Six Demon Bag followed in 2006. As they established themselves over the next few years, the eclectic quartet played shows with artists such as Cat Power, Adam Green, Mirah, U.S. Maple, Aereogramme, Need New Body, and Bardo...
