iTunes Review

At 70 years young, veteran rocker Ian Hunter proves he can still deliver the emotive kick that drove his music several decades ago as a key member of Mott the Hoople and as a solo performer who gave the world “Cleveland Rocks” and “Once Bitten, Twice Shy.” 2009’s Man Overboard is the follow-up to 2007’s much heralded Shrunken Heads. His voice is understandably weathered, resembling that of the late John Stewart who offered up similarly distressed vocals to accompany his tales of aged woe. Hunter employs a traditionalist ensemble, rich on electric and acoustic guitars, surging organs and twinkling pianos that wouldn’t sound out of place backing Bruce Springsteen or Tom Petty. Whether he’s kicking it up a notch with the rabid shouter “Up and Running” and the Faces’ inspired “Babylon Blues“ or settling down for the sorrowful gait of the title track or the finality of “River of Tears,” Hunter again delivers with authority and experience that can’t be denied and does so without lapsing into mere clichés or easy, obvious barn-burners.

Never misses

As Ian ages (along with us) he impresses ever more. He doesn't fall back on what has worked before, doesn't take the easy way out and and doesn't put out a record just to make a buck. When he has something to say he says it interestingly, lyrically, beautifully. Full of remorse, and regret and fondness and still a little p**s and vinegar. I have loved listening to Ian for nearly 4 decades and can't wait to travel to London for the MTH shows, but anticipate the new stuff just as well. Please continue to release whatever is on your mind, Ian. I find it truly valuable and enjoyable..

Another gem in the crown jewels!!!

I greatly looked forward to the release of this album as I have every album since the days of Mott the Hoople. From rebellious high schooler, struggling college student, conformist, adulthood, fatherhood, middle age to nonconformist Ian's lyrics, voice and music have continued to be a soundtrack of my and several generations lives. The good times, the bad times, love found, love lost, the trials and tribulations. Once again Ian releases an album justifying his place amongs rock and rolls echelon. Shame on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They have a place for Ian's piano but not Ian himself. What else does the man need to do? Thank you Ian!!!

Man Overboard

Ian Hunter is one of the few rockers left who still matter, or ever did matter for that fact. And that he is able to come up with new and good and exciting music after reaching 70 is a testament to what he is made of. Go buy this album and the rest of his catalog and enjoy one of the greatest rockers and song writers this planet has. Maple Al
