Album Review
There was a time when an "all instrumental rock" album' meant a long-haired, spandex-toting chap shredding away on an expensive signature-series guitar. But as evidenced by the emergence of such acts as Pelican, the all-instrumental genre is wide open once more. Descriptions wouldn't do justice to what lies within Pelican's second EP overall, March Into the Sea, but if forced to — how does a merger of Red-era King Crimson and Ritual de lo Habitual-era Jane's Addiction sound? While priced and advertised as an EP, the two songs here stretch over a half-an-hour — longer than your average Weezer album. While a remix of "Angel Tears" (originally a track on their 2003 full-length debut, Australasia) by ex-Godflesh leader Justin K. Broadrick is worth inspecting, it's the title track that is the star attraction here — twisting and turning for over 20-minutes. There is still much ground to be broken as far as instrumental rock music goes, and Pelican are just the guys to do it.

Look around
Excellent album, and with a glance at the other "Big A," you can find this for $2. Thought provoking for a drive in the woods, a hike in the same, an epic bike ride, or simple reading. Hell, you may even want to chill at the beach listening to this on a sunny day. I haven't found a place where the layers of this music hasn't meshed with mood, countenance, and exterior.
...to the very heart of me.
I originally picked this up on a beautiful clear blue vinyl which I listen to often. Now I'm sitting here trying to decide if I should pull the trigger on getting it digitally. My only hesitation is not that it isn't good enough to have two copies, it's too good... I wonder if I dare dilute the experience with an instant ipod feed... truth told, it is one of the very best albums I have ever heard, and for me it really sinks deep. If you can forgive me for maybe sounding silly, this is a profoundly spiritual album. I guess what I am saying is that if you don't already have it, you need this album.
hardcore fans, not newbies.
i would highly recommend buying the cd version of this as i don't feel 10 dollars for two songs is going to go over well with fans. i was lucky enough to buy this when it was a lot cheaper and it was my first introduction to pelican and a good intro it was. if your interested in pelican i would recommend the fire in our throats album because at this price it's mostly for hardcore fans but still great quality especially with the excellent Justin Broadrick remix acting as icing to an already delicious cake.
