Album Review

Buffett's biggest-selling regular release contains his biggest hit single, "Margaritaville." It's also a peak in terms of songwriting, both for the artist himself and in his covers of the work of Steve Goodman and Jesse Winchester, among others. Funny, wistful, and celebratory, the album is the definitive statement of Buffett's worldview.

Waiting for the Original Edition

This is the album that made Jimmy Buffett a star. When the album was released way back in what must seem like the dark ages to most here there was this wonderful little acoustic reprise of the title song that really made it feel like an album with a theme and that little reprise is gold. For me it's the perfect finish. So why has it gone missing in our digital age? A very good friend of mine and Buffett aficionado was so gleeful when he bought the special gold edition CD only to be crestfallen to find the reprise was till missing.
So, why is this little piece of gold still missing after all these years and to what end? This can only get a perfect rating when the album is re-released in all it's beach bum glory.

Whenever I run into the occasional person who only knows "Margaritaville," and no other Buffett songs, I lend them this album. A true masterpiece; wouldn't be surpised if it's Jimmy's favorite personal recording.
