Mark Farina, Live, at his Best, and Bringing the House Sound of Chicago to Asia!!!
This is a fantastic CD!! I own and have owned many, many, many Mark Farina mixed CDs, and although I enjoy them all, this one is right up there with his classics, most notably, "SF Sessions vol. 1", and his "United DJs of America" release. It's too bad that they chose not to make this a double-disc as I'm sure he spun for at least another hour. You can even hear him mixing in his next track as the CD fades out. Hopefully though, he played all of his favourite tracks first! They certainly ARE DOPE! The only song on this CD that I could do without is #6. It's in some weird language that I don't recognize, and although it's funky, it's more so in the "literal" sense of the word. This however, is simply my own personal taste. Other than that, the track selection on this CD is sublime. I honestly hope that this isn't Mark's last house mix CD, as within the mix, he incorporates almost all of his signature samples from previous mixes throughout the years. I highly reccomend this mix to anyone who loves to jack to phat, ooey-gooey, smooth, yet oh-so- chunky bass-lines, digs jazzy, syncopated Chicago house, or just loves the man himself, Mark Farina. He's a legend in his own time... and rightfully so.
True House Music
Lately I have been disillusioned by house music simply because alot of the stuff I hear lately is goofy material that has no creative overtone to it. Mark Farina's mix here has helped out alot. This mix has a solid collection of songs that are groove-shaking and smooth enough for chilling or dancing. A well-made mix indeed.
Awesome
Growing up in Chicago, I was introduced to the deep house that comes out of the city. Though Farina now calls San Francisco home, I love that he still mixes in some of that old Chicago feel ( ala DJ Sneak) into the soulful sounds of west coast house. Another fantastic album that needs to be added to the library. I can't wait for his return to Miami for the Music Conference...
