I think this is one of the best progressive metal albums I have heard in some time. The songs most ceretainly do have flow if you listen carefully. It just takes a while to parse the riffs together. There are even melodies that appear multiple times in differen't songs that make this flow really well. You are supposed to listen to the songs in sequence.
I think the guitars are the best part about this. The riffing is highly technical and has some of the most creative and insane rythems I have heard. In the background there are some unusual synth effects that give the songs individual atmosphere almost similar to how they are used in some black metal. I also appreciate the dual vocal attack and think the lyrics are certainly interesting. Vildjharta seems to have taken the basic ideas and "djent" riffing from meshuggah and just run with them in their own direction. I think this is less immediately gratifying than something like uneven structure or tesseract because of its bold wierdness and extreme technicality but Masstaden(seagull town) is definately a grower and certainly is a great debut!
The highest compliment I can give this (Thall) is that I have never heard anything (Thall) quite like it (Thall) before so Vildjharta(Thall) has their own sound (THALL).
