iTunes Review

Of all the members of Wu-Tang Clan, Masta Killa has become the unlikely gatekeeper of the collective’s original blueprint. As the other group members struggle to stay relevant by testing out new and different avenues, Masta Killa remains steadfastly devoted to the cloaked, subterranean soul beats upon which the group’s reputation was founded. For Masta Killa Presents… he functions not only as performer, but curator, taking the listener through a program of hand-selected outtakes and rarities from the collective’s archives. “Just a Thought,” “Chains,” “Armoured Truck” and “The PJs”: These are the sounds of a long-lost Gotham, where the climate is always dark and chilly, and transactions occur in secret, confined spaces. Amazingly, this strain of Wu-music still sounds fresh, and it still has the power to unnerve. In a year where the gargantuan beats of Lex Luger and Kanye West have dominated, these pieces provide a welcome counterpart. In 2010, rap moves at the pace of an oversized yacht, while Masta Killa’s songs slip past like stealth ninjas in the dead of night.

Recyclization,, WHY? let-down!

Wu, 15 year fan here who purchased roughly 20 wu albums over the years. All I have to ask is WHY? Why do you cats feel the need to re-release old tracks on new albums??? Would you cats actually use the studio equipment your fans paid for and give them what they want? Why is it that 5 out of the 20 albums I have contain the same tracks but re-playlisted? If you cats got bills to pay, that's a whack way to cop crisp. I got luv for wu but what's real is real DONT FLIP IT AND BOUNCE IT ON SOME BULLS***. Remember you told everyone that on cuban links, remember???? Come on I dare you to drop one M4th3m4tics (wu n' friends) compilation that is at least 15 tracks and over 60 minutes long, all new no reusing, and they cant be a bunch of weak crappy skits like the RZA did on chamber music. The strength of numbers should have no problem coming with the real and the new. Forget it, ima bootleg yalls music from here on out, no more funding. In the case of WU, YOU DONT ALWAYS GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR, YOU PAY FOR WHAT YOU ALREADY GOT SO YOU CAN GET A COUPLE NEW TRACKS, BIG TIME HUSTLING!!!! Did papa Wu teach you this wisdom? Thanks for letting me down.

LONG LIVE THE WU ;) MA

Considered the ninth member of the Wu-Tang Clan, Masta Killa (b. Elgin Turner; aliases: High Chief, Noodles) recorded his first rhymes at the end of "Da Mystery of Chessboxin'" from the Clan's 1993 seminal debut, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). He had never seriously written rhymes, let alone rap before then. However, under the tutelage of the GZA, he developed a steadily paced flow that accentuated his intellectual lyrics — although equally distinctive were his smooth voice and understated...
