iTunes Review
Earlier in 2008, Jay Reatard released a collection of singles recorded for various labels over two years (Singles ‘06-‘07), and followed it in the fall with Matador Singles ’08, neatly culling a half-dozen 7” singles on the Matador label into one set. This collection makes for surprisingly cohesive listening as Reatard continues to refine his groove, so to speak, channeling his furiously wild energy into music clearly influenced by pioneers of pop-punk. Songs like “See/Saw,” “Screaming Hand” and “Always Wanting More” beautifully conflate early British and New Zealand post-punk into one powerful mélange (think Buzzcocks + Adverts + the Clean + Chris Knox), all clattering snares, adrenaline-pumped guitars, and pinched snarl. “DOA” uses old-fashioned hardcore as a touchstone, while the reverb-heavy “Trapped Here” evokes the moody post-punk of the Jesus and Mary Chain, but “I’m Watching You” reveals Reatard’s penchant for pure pop. It’s a wonder that these individual tracks coalesce to make a really strong listening experience from start to finish, but they do, with conviction.

Quail hunting is almost as good as quail bunting...
As many of you know the hoilday of hoildays is soon approaching. This hoilday is National Jello Eating Contest of the Republic of Democracy of the Monarchy/Oligarchy Question Mark Flute Parading Understatment Misspelling Day on here. I have been preparing for weeks! Hopefully my butter beating skills will win me the National Jello Eating Contest of the Republic of the Democracy of the Monarchy/Oligarchy Question Mark Flute Parading Understatment Misspelling Day on here medal. If I win that means I get to hang my quail bunt bunting up on the front of the teacup shaped house I am currently residing in. By quail bunt bunting I mean bunt cakes with chunks of quail hung on my teacup shaped house's porch. This patricular bunting is in honor of The National Jello Eating Contest of the Republic of Democracy of the Monarchy/Oligarchy Question Mark Flute Parading Understatment Misspelling Day on here!! Anyhoo, this hoilday (National Jello Eating Contest of the Republic of Democracy of the Monarchy/Oligarchy Question Mark Flute Parading Understatment Misspelling Day on here) is in honor of... oh my am I repeating myself? Well you know who repeats them self? Do you? DO YOU?!!?! Jay Reatard! That darn aristocat is jazzing up the gym at my health club (Built in honor of The National Jello Eating Contest of the Republic of Democracy of the Monarchy/Oligarchy Question Mark Flute Parading Understatment Misspelling Day on here) very catchy... I often lull children to sleep with the tender melodies of "Screaming Hand"... What a classic! Just the other day I was baking a quail bunt cake when I accidently baked in the album "Matador Singles '08 (Bonus Track Version)"! A common mistake I am sure, because the cover art reminds me of funfetti. When hanging them up however, I realized that it is an ingrediant I shall never leave out again. Only this album could make the coveted day of The National Jello Eating Contest of the Republic of Democracy of the Monarchy/Oligarchy Question Mark Flute Parading Understatment Misspelling Day on here so special. Face head's are people tooo! Ponygal 626
