If this really is The Matches final album...

by Every Dawn Gets Its Day

At least they went out strong :) This is an excellent album from start to finish. The album really shows off their pop side as well as keeping their punk flair alive and flourishing. The Matches are needless to say my favorite band and seeing them at their 2nd to last going away show at Troubadour was very emotional for me, considering their music has been there for me through everything. I love The Matches more than anything, and this album really shows that not all bands get worse with time. If anything, they've grown. Their lyrics are amazingly well thought out and their general sound alltogether is outstanding. Even though their is the possiblility that The Matches may never play together ever again, at least this album is a great reminder of what an excellent band they really are. To Shawn, Jon, Matt, Justin and Dylan;; You will be missed.

Sincerely Me.

really?

Now i love the matches to death really i do. Buuuut I'd just like to say that i think this new album is just bad in comparison to their prior work. It sounds like a final attempt to make money off of a handful of half-assed songs. I really think these songs are lacking the artistic quality of quriky lyricism that i grew to love the matches for. Where's the passion behind the music? I'm just not feeling it. Also, the choruses seem way too repetative and just fill space. I really hope this isn't the note they intend to finish on... if so, I think this breakup (hopefully only a break) was much needed. Good luck to them and i hope they return with some fresh, creative inspiration.

Can this really be the end?

Is this The Matches last stand? I sure as hell hope not. I can only hope that these "side projects" will be short lived and in a few years make a Blink-182 like reunion, back to where they belong. No matter what the future of The Matches is, there is one thing for sure, this album, along with every other one they made, kicks some serious a*s.

Biography

Formed: 1997 in Oakland, CA

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '00s

The exuberant Oakland pop-punk outfit the Matches initially formed as the Locals in 1997 when vocalist/guitarist Shawn Harris, drummer Matt Whalen, and bassist Justin San Souci were still in the early days of high school together. Frustrated with the lack of under-21 venues in the Bay Area at the time,...
