VAST - Me & You
Basically, if your a fan of the first couple albums, the electronic albums, you might not like this. But if you like his acoustic stuff and the album April, then you are gonna love this album. The songs here are all from the Generica series and have been re-recorded with a full band with top notch production behind it. It is a amazing album as far as layers and story telling. I could not find a throw away track on the album. But my favorite VAST album is April, so I love this album. Like I said you might not. Jon Crosby's voice has never sounded better.
More of the same...
If you are a fan of VAST's (Jon Crosby's) 1st few albums...then you already know what you're going to get with this album: more bland, tired, and unimportant music. Don't get me wrong Crosby's song-writing is great and stands up against most of the albums released nowadays, but is this album up to the bar VAST set with V.A.S.T., Music for People, or Turquoise/Crimson...? Not at all. You may find a nugget somewhere in the album, but if you're trying to get a feel for what VAST has to offer look elsewhere. If you're a big VAST fan, well...you don't need to a review to give you the motivation to expand you're VAST music library.
Soul Searching?
Ok, Everyone says this is the "usual" VAST. I agree. However, although not the usual intense beats and hooks, it's still VAST and the subject of the music is still pretty much the same with excellent lyrics and well written music. As a photographer, I couldn't imagine having to photograph the same subject over and over just because everyone only liked that, you'd get burned out pretty quick. There has to be room to breath, to grow, adapt, and basically just do what the heck you want to when the mood strikes, like say heartache..., or lost love, taking time to look around and reflect. I think if you like VAST, you'll like this too. I think it fits in perfectly with their "collection" of albums and life's work.
