Good hip-hop record, but....
     

Everyone here should be ashamed that there are people on this review thread saying, "I don't really like rap, but I like Styles of Beyond..." That's sad. It's understandable that the Fort Minor appearances would draw new fans to S.O.B., but still -- if you really like this record, you are a fan of rap. It's always been pathetic that some people will say, "Yeah, i love the Beastie Boys, etc." but then they don't listen to any other hip-hop. What, is it too black for you? There's a whole universe of indie hip-hop beyond the commercialized garbage peddled on MTV and on the radio. If you like Styles of Beyond, check out Edan, Mr. Lif, Divine Styler, Non Phixion, Jedi Mind Tricks, Deltron 3030, MF Doom, C Rayz Walz, etc. Most of this stuff isn't on iTunes unfortunately. It does require getting out there and discovering new stuff. I tell you what: I'll make an iMix called "If you like Styles of Beyond..." with some starters.

What the radio needs
     

This is the type of music that the radio needs to play. I am disappointed that they haven't put out more music.

Took 'Em to Church
     

After listening to a lot of the Fort Minor project, I wanted to hear more of Styles of Beyond, so I went and bought all their albums and singles off iTunes, and I wasn't dissapointed. Megadef is their best album in my opinion. Ryu (aka Tiger Trenchcoat Chan) and Takbir spit some hot verses in a lot of these tracks. Some of my favorite tracks are "Mr. Brown" and "Pay Me." If you want to listen to Styles of Beyond, I highly recommend Megadef.

Consisting of MCs Ryu and Takbir, Styles of Beyond take their inventive Los Angeles-based hip-hop to the millennium and try to propel the form into uncharted territory. The group came together in 1995 when the two aspiring MCs met and freestyled together while on a break from class at Pierce Community College in Woodland Hills, CA. They were instantly impressed with each other's off-the-cuff wordplay and decided to start Styles of Beyond, a name Takbir was already using along with DJ Cheapshot. SOB...
