Album Review
Sugar Beats' Mellow My Baby collects vocal and instrumental versions of contemporary and classic lullabies such as "Never Never Land," "Golden Slumbers," "Rock-A-Bye Baby," and "Over the Rainbow." Label founder Sherry Goffin Kondor's sweet, understated vocals and the soft, mostly subtle arrangements suit both the songs and the album's purpose, particularly on the bittersweet yet lulling renditions of "The Inchworm" and "Island of Dreams," which also features backing vocals by Kondor's mother, Carole King. Mellow My Baby thoughtfully provides lyrics and instrumental versions of the songs for everyone who wants to sing their own versions of these lullabies. A uniquely personalized collection, Mellow My Baby continues Sugar Beats' tradition of sweet, but not syrupy, children's music.

Baby Loves It!

Original and Classic Lullabies
Sherry Goffin Kondor's "Mellow My Baby" is a collection of both classic lullabies and new songs that seem like you've heard them all your life. Each song is played twice: once with vocals and once without, so that you can sing to your child without the other voices. I really liked that Carole King, who is Kondor's mother, sings with her on one of the songs. The only thing I don't care for: "The Inchworm" has a creepy children's chorus in the background that just sounds...well...creepy. All in all, though, a solid album you won't get totally sick of even if you have to listen to it every single night like I do!!
