Ain't No Riffraff
I just stumbled upon Casey Neill when a friend of mine who was on the street told me about the song "Riffraff". I had no idea I was going to find one of the best folk albums ever. Every song is a classic, and some-- such as "Angola" and the title song-- are almost perfect. It is a mix of different styles-- story songs, bluegrass, acoustic rock-- but they all have Neill's wonderful, gruff voice and gorgeous guitar work. It is one of my church's favorite (of course, we are almost all street folks in Portland-- the focus of "Sisters of the Road", which is a location on Sixth we often visit!)

Casey Neill is a Portland, Oregon-based singer-songwriter who takes his cues from the political protest-oriented modern-day punk-folk of Billy Bragg, as well as Celtic music and poetic singer/songwriters like Bob Dylan. Neill was raised on the East Coast but moved to Olympia, WA to attend Evergreen State University, where he became interested in environmentalism and protest music. Neill recorded an eponymous debut album for the Appleseed label in 1998, and subsequently formed the Casey Neill Trio...
