Best of Fleetwood Mac

I was fortunate enough to see this line up live in Berlin 1969. For a band that only lasted for 3 yrs, they were THE best blues band in those three years. This album has a good sample from those years. Between Peter Green, Jeremy Spencer and Danny Kirwin they had written some of the best 'classic' songs from that era. Spencers' slide guitar was very Elmore James, and no one played like Peter, his sound and, solos were so far ahead of anyone elses. When Kirwin joined, he grew by playing duels with Peter then began to contribute his own material. These three, with the best rythum section in the business, created one of the true 'power' blues bands of all time. Thank you John Mayall for bringing these great musicians together, Peter named the band after his friends-Mick Fleetwood and John McVie.

The Green Manalishi

Great to hear again, but seems to be missing something - some tracks? Don't hear some guitar work and vocal work that I remember from an LP that I had, particularly at the ending. Is this a different take?

The Men of the World

This really is a great find. Don't let the big price tag scare you. It has alternate takes and a few live songs from during the early years of the band (hence "The Early Years"). I really love Long Grey Mare, Green Manalishi, Man of the World, and Oh Well.

Importance of early Mac, in my opinion:

1. Then Play On (not remastered since 1980's)
2. Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac
3. MEN OF THE WORLD: FM- EARLY YEARS
4. Live at Boston
5. Blues Jam at Chess
6. Pious Bird of Good Omen
7. The Original Fleetwood Mac
8. Mr. Wonderful
9. Shrine '69

While most bands undergo a number of changes over the course of their careers, few groups experienced such radical stylistic changes as Fleetwood Mac. Initially conceived as a hard-edged British blues combo in the late '60s, the band gradually evolved into a polished pop/rock act over the course of a decade. Throughout all of their incarnations, the only consistent members of Fleetwood Mac were drummer Mick Fleetwood and bassist John McVie — the rhythm section that provided the band with its...
