Welcome back, Jimmy and crew!

Being a MASSIVE Ours fan since early 2001 and having seen 15+ live performances of Ours/Jimmy solo, I was so eager to hear the final product that is 'Mercy (Dancing For The Death of An Imaginary Enemy)'. I was excited (especially since Rick Rubin was at the production helm) but at the same time a bit skeptical due to it's release talking about 5 and half years (it seemed like it was turning into a mini-'Chinese Democracy'). ; ) I kept asking myself "what songs are going to be on the final product?" and "how would they sound on record after hearing them live countless different ways over the past half-decade?" Now that the wait is over I can honestly say it's a magnificent return to form. Jimmy Gnecco proves that he is the best vocalist rock or otherwise, around today complete with a lot more harmonies this time around. Brilliant! There's a definite connection on the album too. By connection I mean there are hints of songs in other songs. The most obvious example is God Only Wants You and Live Again. They are basically the same song (i.e., Live Again is God Only Wants You sped up). There have been numerous times where I found myself going to sing one melody and quickly realized it was in another song. I've always loved when bands did that (Dream Theater, Genesis, Rush, etc...). In my eyes, 'Mercy...' would be second to 'Distorted Lullabies' (4 and half stars) but definitely surpasses the solid, but flawed 'Precious' (3 stars). All I know is that I'm enjoying this album immensely and you shouldn't hesitate to grab it and their others either. For fans of: U2, Radiohead, Jeff Buckley, Muse Key songs: Mercy, Ran Away To Tell The World, Murder, God Only Wants You, Live Again, Lost

Phenomenal

Finally a "long awaited" album that was actually worth the wait. Jimmy Gnecco's vocals once again wail angelically one minute and scream with blood curdling fury the next. The musical layers on the album work nicely and give the songs the depth needed to match the lyrics. The lyrics are well written, not too obvious, and full of all the angst, pain, and beauty that Ours fans cherish and depend on. If you thought that the state of music today has lost the honesty, creativity, and meaning that it once had, let Mercy, Dancing for the Death of an Imaginary Enemy welcome you back. THANK YOU.

Well worth the wait! Brilliant voice. Great music.

Well worth the wait! Brilliant voice. Great music. "OURS" always fly's under the radar. They are a hidden gem in the world of music. Definatly a favorate.

Although technically consisting of five members, Ours is essentially the brainchild of self-described music obsessive Jimmy Gnecco. Born and raised in New Jersey, Gnecco toyed with music and various band configurations after graduating high school, but it wasn't until 1996, when he returned to America from a brief sabbatical, that he decided to pour his complete energy into music. It didn't take Gnecco long to attract industry attention; a major-label bidding war quickly ensued, with Gnecco turning...
