Album Review

Since making her debut as a solo artists in 1986 with the smash single "Come Share My Love," Miki Howard no doubt had her eyes set on attaining that number one song. This album proves to be the facilitator of that quest. There were four featured singles on this set. The first release, the uptempo dance cut "Ain't Nuthin' in the World," grooved its way up the Billboard R&B charts to number one. The Chicago native stayed in the Top Three with "Love Under New Management" and "Until You Come Back to Me (That's What I'm Gonna Do)." The former is testimonial expression from the soul songstress while the latter is a re-make of the Aretha Franklin classic. Respectively, they peaked at number two and three. The fourth release was the pleading, mid-tempo number "Come Back to Me." Cresting at 53 on the charts, it too is an excellent selection. An honorable mention goes to "I'll Be Your Shoulder." A duet with one of the consummate soulman of the day, Gerald Levert. This is a superb effort by Miki Howard.

This is the Good Miki. Everything she's done isn't necessarily good, but this is. The songs, the phasing...it's Miki at her highest.

This was one of the first cassettes (wow, I'm really dating myself lol!) I ever bought. The production is top notch, the writing very creative, yet personal; but it's Miki's voice that sets it apart from other chantueses of the day. Her expressive, soulful range gives the material a true depth. Go Chicago!

The collection of songs on this album self titled, MIKKI HOWARD are timeless, thought provoking, dreamy and sensual to say the LEAST. These songs stick to your soul and stay there. Mikki sings the lessons of love and whispers the pain of over giving to the undeserving. A must have in your collection rather your a Mikki Howard fan or maybe. Other favorite albums where she shines as herself in her own voice are FEMME FATAL which delivers a wonderful arrangement and delivery of songs in that signature voice and the under-rated THREE WISHES which again possess a beautiful melody of songs.
