Album Review

Minority of One happened to be D.C. punk legends Dag Nasty's first album in ten years, following the lackluster Four on the Floor EP released through Epitaph in 1992. Where Four on the Floor's production woes held these emocore originators from truly shining, Minority of One glowed with fiery dedication to one's craft. Although it was 16 years since Dag Nasty first came together, they seemed to still have the spark that boosted them to such independent heights; the songwriting and musical achievements captured on this album were stupendous. Straightforward, melodically enhanced punk rock at its best is heard on these 11 tracks. Dave Smalley's vocals were still as blunt and pleasing to the ear, and Brian Baker's melodic guitar melted the heart with its intense sincerity. Even after all the time apart, Dag Nasty returned with an album that may be the best release in their career, proving that these musicians were still at the head of the pack, pulling on your emotions while moving the blood through one's veins; if only all emocore was this enjoyable and accessible. ~ Jason D. Good Stuff - BUT

Anyone else get a bad copy of "Twisted Again"...?

Damn-near classic stuff in here.

Damn-near classic stuff in here. It's a better band with better production and just a tad less heart than in their heyday. Dave Smalley is the one Dag Nasty (or ALL) singer in my book.

Same guys, different band...

Sounds surprisingly good after all this time... Although it's impossible to capture the energy and passion of the original... 100 punks has long been one of my favorite Gen. X songs... nice touch...

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s

Dag Nasty kept roaring D.C.-styled hardcore alive during the mid-'80s. Although the group was more accessible and melodic than Minor Threat, it never lost its bracing, blistering edge. Formed by former Minor Threat and Meatmen guitarist Brian Baker and ex-DYS vocalist Dave Smalley, Dag Nasty recorded their first album, Can I Say (1986), with D.C.-punk guru Ian MacKaye assisting on the production. The following year, Smalley left the group; he was replaced by Peter Cortner, who added more pop elements...
