Album Review
What makes this 5-song EP of covers Primus's best release is the material. For once, Les Claypool's crew plays actual songs instead of sketching out a few ideas as an excuse for jamming. As a result, Miscellaneous Debris isn't as weird and alienating as previous albums, and often their reinterpretations — from the clever ribbing of XTC's "Making Plans for Nigel" and Pink Floyd's "Have A Cigar" to the relatively respectful readings of The Meters, the Residents and Peter Gabriel's "Intruder" — show flashes of brilliance, largely due to the loose yet focused musicianship.
Customer Reviews
To each his own
As Claypool said in an interview with Blender Magazine some years ago, 12 I think, "Primus is like a greased pig. It's hard for some people to hold on to." For example, Claypool tried out for Metallica and didn't get the gig because ol' James Hetfield thought the bassist was, well, weird. Bottom line, listeners either dig the boys or cannot stand them. Personally, I caught the pig years ago and haven't let go yet. The only fault I can find in Debris is there are not enough songs on the release.
Cover Songs
This is an album of cover songs, not true Primus tunes. Unless you are a collector and have all the other's, skip this album. Sure Les Claypool can do wonders with anything but if you are new to Primus you need to go back and Sail the Seas...
Worst Band Ever?
First off, Avenged Sevenfold SUCKS! And not in the way that Primus Sucks (the band's irreverent catchphrase up until 2006) but in the way that it's really not good. Second the cover of "Have a Cigar" is actually not bad considering that it's one of the best songs by Pink Floyd, a band that needs no further description than the name itself. If you can't even respect the originality of the songs, then don't buy them. Simple as that. Also A7X whatever, stop going to every Primus album and writing a bad review saying that they suck with no reasoning. You're almost as bad as the Primus guy who goes to Nirvana's and Rush's albums saying that they're not good with no argument.
