iTunes Review

Hard to believe that it's been over a decade since Denver eardrum destroyers Cephalic Carnage first hit the scene with their debut album Conforming To Abnormality. Now on album number six, they're still as rugged as ever, churning out their one-of-a-kind blend of technically tight, hyper-harsh grindcore-meets-death metal, served with a healthy dose of humor and sprinkled with completely unexpected musical change-ups, be it through subtle sound effects, jazzy strum breakdowns, or a surprise sax appearance. Though this is their first release without guitarist Zac Joe, they don't seem to miss him, and while it may not be quite as over-the-top as their much-loved Xenosapien, it will undoubtedly satisfy open-minded metalheads looking for some next-level mayhem. Standout tracks include "The Incorrigable Flame" and "Dimensional Modulation Transmography."

the drumming makes me a merry man

John Merryman's drumming is so technical and spot on with its many shifts in tempo and makes this beast one hell of a running album. Its brutality is like being curb stomped till your face becomes part of the pavement and your appreciative for your broken smile. To not buy this album would be unwise and may lead to chronic regret so save yourself the trouble or hide your face in shame. Remember that things that feel this good usually lead to pregnancy.

YES!!!!

I was a little worried about purchasing this album. I have been a huge Cephalic Carnage fan for many many years, and I loved all their albums,...except Xenosapien (which was terrible); Anomalies was ~ok~. So when this album came out I wasn't even going to bother with it, then I saw the music video for Ohrwurm, and I really liked the song, so I went ahead and previewed the album. I have to say "Cephalic's back baby!". I do not regret purchasing this album at all. It is by far one of the best albums I've purchased in a while. Many bands have been putting out disappointing material almost making me regret listening to the genre, but this album takes me back to my childhood love for metal and reminds me of why I started listening to it in the first place.

If you, like me, are very particular on who you listen to, you will not be disappointed. Buy this album! I promise you: you won't regret it.

Biography

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '90s, '00s

This crazy concoction of truly experimental grindcore, death metal, and jazz came together in Denver, CO, in 1992. Founding members Lenzig (vocals) and Zak (guitar) put together a demo entitled Scrape My Lungs in 1993 and then took a break until 1996 when they recruited John (drums), Steve (guitar), and Doug (bass). Soon after their reformation they released a second demo, Fortuitous Oddity, and then hit the road on a self-financed tour across the U.S. in 1997. It was during this tour that the band's...
